They worry about everything, including their health, work, social interactions, and daily routine. An anxiety attack can lead to significant problems in their lives, including school, social interactions, and work.

Psychotherapists have the expertise and experience to diagnose clients properly. Psychotherapists can, for example, recognize ADHD symptoms and anxiety symptoms. However, they cannot prescribe medicine; psychiatric doctors are medical professionals with the proper knowledge and expertise for prescribing medications.

Psychotherapists cannot prescribe medicine. Psychiatric doctors are medical professionals with the proper knowledge and expertise for prescribing medications. Psychotherapists can diagnose clients properly, recognizing ADHD symptoms and anxiety symptoms, but medication prescription is beyond their scope.

You may feel ready to stop therapy when you notice you have fewer issues to discuss. This usually leads to spacing out sessions for maintenance before eventually stopping.

In psychotherapy, therapists help clients by focusing on positive emotions, identifying strengths, creating stability, reducing future anxiety, and healing past traumas.

Initially, therapy is usually once a week to build trust. As progress is made, sessions may become less frequent, such as every other week or once a month.

Therapist Desiree Dalkiran

Hi! I’m Desiree Dalkiran, and I’m so happy you found our website. I became a counselor because I am passionate about helping others improve their quality of life. Nothing is more rewarding to me than seeing others grow and thrive. I’m guessing you stumbled onto my site because you are aware of how hard life can be. I recognize that taking the chance to connect to someone can be a scary thing. I honor the bravery that it takes even to make this step to reach out to us. Therapy is an opportunity to let go of the stress of connecting and be able to explore yourself.

-Counselor / founder

I believe we all have a unique culture, and understanding my clients’ culture is very important to me. Originally from this area, I know the unique culture that exists here. After moving away from Oregon following high school, I traveled the world extensively, including living in the Netherlands. Counseling is my third career, and I have a multifaceted background working with diverse populations from roofing to management, which impacts my work in this field. From all my travels and contacts with various cultures, I have developed the belief that humans, and everything they consist of, want to mend and heal. Though sometimes, the path to do that is not clear.

I received my Masters of Counseling from Arizona State University in 2015 and have worked in community mental health since 2016. I am a National Board Certified Counselor and a Licensed Professional Counselor in Oregon and Texas. I am an ADHD Certified Clinical Services Provider and an EMDR Certified Therapist and also a member of the American Counseling Association. My theoretical approach is from a biopsychosocial model that looked at the intersectionality of the physical body, the mental state, and social relationships to conceptualize the issues.

Additionally, I believe multicultural components and evaluation of the systems that clients are a part of our essential elements to understanding where clients have come from and the direction they would like to go. Some of the modalities used in my practice include EMDR, behavioral modification, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, DBT, CBT, Internal Family Systems, Emotional Freedom Technique, Emotion Focused Therapy, play therapy, and art therapy. In my experience, psycho-education can be an essential piece of allowing clients to feel empowered in their care, and I like to focus on education centering on brain development, brain function, and attachment.

I practice in Oregon as an LPC under license C5705. I am a Board Certified Counselor with the National Board of Certified Counselors, ID #627085. I am required to follow mandated reporting laws in Oregon. At times I may seek consultation and supervision regarding particular situations or as I seek out continuing education. Information regarding the limitations to confidentiality will be provided to clients on an ongoing basis.
